This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Photo Upscaler ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), a macOS application, handles information in connection with your use of the App. This Policy applies to the App only and does not cover any third-party websites, services, or products, including Apple's App Store, which are governed by their own privacy policies. By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
Your photos and images never leave your Mac. All AI enlargement and compression tasks are performed entirely on-device using Apple Silicon hardware. Photo Upscaler is fully functional offline for its core image-processing features and does not upload, transmit, sync, or store your images, image previews, or thumbnails on any external server, cloud service, or third party.
Photo Upscaler does not require an account, sign-in, or user registration. We do not collect, harvest, sell, rent, or share any personally identifiable information (PII). We do not collect the photos or images you process, their file names, EXIF or other embedded metadata, folder structures, location data, contacts, or browsing history. We do not use cookies, web beacons, or similar tracking technologies, because the App does not include any in-app browser or remote content.
a. Diagnostics and crash data. If you opt in to share analytics with app developers through macOS System Settings, Apple may forward anonymized crash logs and performance data to us solely to help identify bugs and improve stability. This data is aggregated by Apple, does not identify you personally, and is never linked back to any images you process.
b. App Store purchase and device data. Because Photo Upscaler is distributed as a one-time paid download through the Mac App Store, purchase, payment, and licensing information (such as proof of purchase and device/OS compatibility data) is collected and processed directly by Apple in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment card details, billing address, or Apple ID, and we do not operate any of our own analytics, advertising, or user-profiling SDKs inside the App.
c. Support communications. If you voluntarily email us for support or feedback, we will receive your email address and the content of your message, which we use only to respond to your inquiry and to improve the App. We retain support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request.
Photo Upscaler does not embed any third-party advertising networks, tracking SDKs, behavioral-profiling tools, or data brokers. We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under applicable privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA), because we do not collect personal information from your use of the App's core features.
When you add images for processing, macOS may prompt you to grant Photo Upscaler permission to access specific files, folders, or your Photos library. The App only accesses the files and locations you explicitly select or authorize through the operating system's native file picker or permission dialog. Processed output is saved either alongside the original image or in a destination folder you designate; we never scan, index, or access files outside the scope you authorize.
Because processing occurs locally and we do not operate servers that store your images, we do not retain your photos or image data at all — processed files exist only on your local device (and any backup destinations you separately control, such as Time Machine or iCloud, which are governed by Apple's own policies). Any support emails you send us are retained only for as long as needed to address your request, after which they are deleted or anonymized.
Photo Upscaler is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information from any user in the ordinary course of operation, this risk is inherently minimized. If you believe a child has provided us personal information (e.g., via a support email), please contact us so we can delete it.
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws (such as the EU/UK GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA) to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Because we collect only the limited information described in Section 3 (diagnostics you opt into via Apple, and any support emails you voluntarily send), such requests will typically be resolved by simply deleting your support correspondence or directing you to Apple for any purchase-related records. You may exercise these rights by contacting us using the information in Section 11.
Because the App processes your images entirely on your local device and we do not operate cloud infrastructure, there is no cross-border transfer of your image data by us. Any diagnostic data shared via Apple's opt-in analytics program is transferred and processed by Apple in accordance with Apple's own privacy and data-transfer safeguards.
Because your files remain exclusively on your local device, the security of your images is primarily governed by your Mac's built-in protections, such as FileVault disk encryption, macOS sandboxing, and Gatekeeper. We recommend keeping macOS and the App up to date and enabling FileVault for additional protection of data at rest.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or our practices. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Effective Date" below, and, where required by law, we will provide additional notice. Your continued use of the App after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
Effective Date: September 2025
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at feedback@dcocb.com. We will make reasonable efforts to respond in a timely manner.
